Kato Drys Community Council – Cyprus

Kato Drys Community Council (KDCC) is a Public Body with an elected Council. According to their mandate, KDCC is a non-commercial organization that can provide a number of educational & training services, in traditional, environmental and archaeological skills. The teachers are drawn from the community of Kato Drys and nearby villages. KDCC is trying to stem the outward migration of young people and support an attached youth group. They want to attract talented and active young people to help in the creation and implementation of practical projects, aimed at development of multicultural communications, cultural diversity, interreligious dialogue and tolerance in a civil society. KDCC works with refugees and asylum seekers and welcomes their enthusiasm and productivity into our community.

Strategy of KDCC: The development of a new generation of young people with liberal ideas, ready to work for the welfare of the people of their community, the greater Cyprus and to cooperate in the spirit of tolerance and partnership with other nations.

Primary objective of KDCC: is to inform about the natural and cultural beauties of their community and give the occasion to learn about the long-lasting history of the Kato Drys village, the antiquities and culture.

Old Olive Mill: KDCCV have recently rented and restored a derelict olive mill using traditional building methods. The mill has 5 sections: 1. a creative area with workshops; 2. a gallery space for exhibiting local and sustainable art; 3. a museum of things found in the mill; 4. a theatre for drama, music, storytelling and fashion shows; and 5. a coffee shop. Almost all practical training is done in the Old Olive Mill but KDCC has also outreach centres in Athasi Heights and Brick-kiln house, Kato Drys.
